How should photos be taken before rhinoplasty?

Photo angles needed for preliminary assessment and key points to consider.

  • In rhinoplasty preliminary assessment, photos help the doctor understand nasal structure, facial proportions and profile balance at an early stage. Therefore photos should be clear, taken in natural light and with a relaxed facial expression.
  • Filters, heavy makeup, face-altering apps or edited images can mislead the assessment.
  • An ideal photo set should include front facial view, right and left profiles, right-left 45-degree angles and a basal nose view. For the basal view, the chin should be slightly raised and the camera held at a level that shows under the nose.
  • Along with photos, information such as age, country/city, previous nose or face surgeries, fillers/Botox, regular medications, allergies, breathing problems and smoking/nicotine use is also important in the assessment process.
